Things to do in Queenstown as a solo traveller
Many visitors who come to Queenstown do so alone. Travelling solo comes with its perks – you can be completely selfish and decide where you want to go and what you want to do yourself, you’ll meet loads of people, and you’ll learn a lot about yourself. It can be daunting when it comes to finding things to do, so having a plan in place for your trip is a great idea.
In Queenstown, there are plenty of tours that allow you to meet people and just as many activities that are amazing (and likely more peaceful) by yourself. Here are some of our top recommendations of things to do in Queenstown when you’re ridin’ solo!
Milford Sound Day Tour
A day tour to Milford Sound is one of the best things to do as a solo traveller in Queenstown. On one of our Milford Sound day tours from Queenstown, you’ll not only get a full day of adventure but also meet lots of other like-minded visitors along the way.
Our tours start with a coach ride, and onboard you will have the chance to converse and enjoy the company of a group of visitors just as excited as you. The coach stops along the way to take in some stunning sights before arriving in Milford Sound for a nature cruise. Here, you can look out in awe at Milford Sound, listen to the guide’s informative commentary, and relax with a cup of coffee. Then, it’s either a coach ride back to Queenstown or if you’re up for it, a plane ride!
By the time you make it back to Queenstown, you will have had an amazing day and may even have made some friends for life. A day tour to Milford Sound is an awesome thing to do for any visitor, including solo travellers.

The views from the jet boat are stunning, and this is a group activity attracts plenty of other solo travellers jumping on for a thrill-seeking ride. By the end, it’s almost guaranteed you will have a huge smile stretched across your face and great memories for life!

Go Hiking in Queenstown
Hiking is one of those things that is sometimes more amazing as a solo traveller. Being out in the wilderness listening to only the wildlife and the sounds of nature is truly special. In Queenstown, there are lots of easy and safe hikes in the area. Some of these include Ben Lomond, Queenstown Hill, Bobs Cove Track, and the Tiki Trail.
All of these hikes are popular so it’s likely you will see a few other people along the way. As a solo traveller, it’s also much safer on these trails as in the unlikely case of an emergency someone is never too far to help. That being said, if you stick to the trail and hike in good weather conditions, you should have no problems at all! You can learn a bit more about safety when hiking in Queenstown here.
Join a Queenstown Pub Crawl
Queenstown is a nightlife hotspot, and as a solo traveller, the best way to get amongst it is one of the organised pub crawls in town. These pub crawls get a group of likeminded partygoers together for a night of fun and socialising.
Organised pub crawls are a great way to meet people in Queenstown and also get to know Queenstown’s nightlife. The two most popular pub crawls are organised by The Big Night Out and Kiwi Crawl.
