Award winning tourism operator, Southern Discoveries, hosted 18 teams participating in the annual Variety Southern Dash on a cruise in Milford Sound on the weekend.

The Variety Dash is a quirky, non-competitive road rally that raises funds for Variety – The Children’s Charity. Teams dress up and spend three days completing a driving route in rental cars. This year they ended their trip in Milford Sound.

Many of the team members had never been to Milford Sound before so were excited to visit the ‘eighth wonder of the world’ while raising money for such a great cause.

Southern Discoveries Director of Sales and Marketing Julia Savill was delighted that the company was able to host the group on their final leg of their three day Dash.

“It’s wonderful to be able to support a charity that helps New Zealand’s disadvantaged children reach their full potential. We’d welcome the Variety Southern Dash teams back every year to cruise with us.”

Teams came from as far as Australia, Auckland and Tauranga as well as a little further south including Rangiora, Christchurch and Lake Hood and raised around $15,000 for the charity.
