Where to watch the sunset

There are a few different places to watch the Milford Sound sunset but the easiest place is only a 2 minute walk from the Milford visitor terminal. After going on an amazing boat cruise you can simply venture out of the terminal and take the short walk to the Breakwater Walkway. Once there, you have some of the best views on offer of Milford Sound!

You can also walk a little further and head to the main car park. From here you can also venture onto the sand as the tide moves out and search for your own vantage point.

If you are feeling adventurous, it is possible to hike the Milford Viewpoint and watch the sun go down from there. This walk takes about 10 minutes each way and is signposted. Make sure to bring a flashlight for the way back down though!

Enjoy a quiet evening at Milford Sound

If you stay until sunset you will get to experience the peace and quiet of Milford Sound. Fewer people stay into the evening and it is likely that you will almost have the view of the sunset all to yourself! You might just see a few of the workers who live there wandering around. The tranquillity of Milford Sound as the sun goes down is magical!
