State-of-the-art catamaran Spirit of Queenstown provides unique and exceptional events setting

Purpose-built with groups and events in mind, the state-of-the-art Spirit of Queenstown catamaran offers groups a unique and exceptionally personalised experience on stunning Lake Wakatipu.

With the enviable backdrop of The Remarkables mountain range, the 26 metre high-speed catamaran launched in late 2013 and is exclusive to Southern Discoveries.

A new and exciting option not currently available in Queenstown, Spirit of Queenstown has flexible set-up arrangements catering to a wide range of events including business meetings, weddings and larger conference and incentive programmes. With capacity to carry up to 150 passengers, the multi-million-dollar boat has an enclosed interior area with theatre-style seating, which can be removed with ease for cocktail functions and dinner events.

The sheltered open top deck is the place for capturing those ‘postcard perfect’ panoramic photo opportunities and offers outside space, ideal for breaks in conference proceedings.

Welcome your group to Queenstown with an idyllic cruise on Lake Wakatipu sampling local Central Otago wine and produce, or enjoy a pre-dinner cruise around Frankton Arm while watching the sun set over The Remarkables.

Fully-licensed with various catering options available, day and night sailings will equally delight. The twinkling lights of the town sparkle gloriously at night, while by day relax and soak up the majestic and dramatic mountain views.

Each event is carefully created and overseen by Southern Discoveries’ dedicated conference and incentive manager and tailored to clients’ individual requirements, including catering, entertainment options and theming.

Enjoy a sumptuous sunrise breakfast aboard this stunning vessel as you cruise across the lake and mingle with colleagues before taking your seat to listen to guest speakers.

Alternatively impress your team with a cocktail cruise sampling Central Otago-themed canapés expertly crafted by the best local chefs, with on-board entertainment to set the tone for the evening.

Complete with live music, themed décor and superb cuisine, sit-down dinner cruises can also be arranged offering a wonderful way to spend an evening in Queenstown.

Southern Discoveries’ conference and incentive manager Melinee Kong said Spirit of Queenstown presented the market with a “truly special and unique” venue option.

“In the competitive events market we appreciate organisers are seeking something a little bit different when choosing a venue,” said Ms Kong.

“The Spirit of Queenstown is a beautiful boat with sensational viewing through large windows inside and three outside decks. It’s rare to find such a spacious, bright and open venue and with outdoor space as well, it’s a great option.”

“It’s an amazing experience getting out on the water on a brand new catamaran taking in all the stunning alpine scenery. Imagine having the guest speaker wow guests with an inspiring keynote speech while enjoying à la carte breakfast on the lake, surrounded by snow-capped mountains. That certainly sets the scene for an event people will remember forever.”

Spirit of Queenstown also offers group team building activities and programmes at privately-owned Mt Nicholas High Country Station.

Located on the lake’s western shore, the station covers over 100,000 acres (40,500 hectares) and is home to merino sheep, used exclusively for the Icebreaker clothing range.

The Mt Nicholas experience is exclusive to Southern Discoveries and enables groups to see a working station up close and experience Southland hospitality at its best. From food and wine experiences, to sheep farming, gum boot throwing and Amazing Race style events, there’s something for everyone at this private paradise.
Southern Discoveries also operates the Queenstown Discovery vessel which provides day and charter cruises for up to 35 people, enabling smaller groups to experience Lake Wakatipu up close.

The launch of Spirit of Queenstown is the latest milestone in Southern Discoveries’ expansion over the past five years and will complement their extensive Milford Sound offering.
