Stops on the Milford Road

Te Anau

A township of tranquil beauty...

Te Anau is nestled at the southern shores of a lake bearing the same name and also New Zealand's second largest lake. The largest body of fresh water in the South Island, Lake Te Anau covers over 300 square kilometres and has 500 kilometres of uninhabited shoreline.

Te Anau is the gateway to explore the playground of Fiordland National Park and is known as the walking capital of the world as many walks begin here. At the head of Lake Te Anau is Glade House - the starting point of the Milford Track which traverses 55 kilometres of the Fiordland National Park.

Take time to stop at the Southern Discoveries Te Anau Information Centre on Lakefront Drive to book your Milford experience and for up to date weather and road conditions.

Homer Tunnel
